Finals are Here - Dining Restaurants Open Earlier

During Finals Week, Dining restaurants are open earlier for those of you getting up early to study or take an exam.  All restaurants are open at 7am this week.  The Places & Markets are also open as usual.

Promo: Finals Week Early Dining HoursMake sure to eat to fuel your study sessions and test-taking.  Your brain needs food to perform best.

What are some healthy pre-exam breakfasts available in Dining restaurants?
  • yogurt with chopped fruit and a cereal mixed in
  • hot slow-cooked oatmeal with raisins
  • scrambled eggs with salsa on top, toasted whole wheat bread and an orange
Short on time and running in-and-out of Place & Market on your way to your exam? Try:
  • Amy's oatmeal bowl or breakfast burrito
  • Kashi bar or Lara bar
  • Hospitality Express fruit and cheese box (in the refrigerated cases)
  • yogurt cup (my current faves are the Greek-style yogurts)

Best of luck on your exams!

Steel Cut Oats

Have you noticed a difference in the oatmeal at Plaza Cafe?

The oatmeal there is now made from STEEL CUT OATS! Here is my bowl of oatmeal from this morning with brown sugar and raisins.
Oats are good for your heart because of their soluble fiber content. They are a fast and healthy breakfast option. These steel cut oats are also non-GMO.

Cereal, An Anytime Meal

Each Dining Services restaurant has cereal available all day in these nifty dispensers.

Cereal is a quick and convenient meal solution that you can eat any time of the day! Aim for the higher fiber choices or mix and match your favorites into the same bowl. Pour non-fat or low fat milk (or soymilk or lactose-free milk if preferred) over your cereal or mix in some yogurt in the mornings. Cereal is in these dispensers in the restaurants and available in boxes at the Places & Markets.

In the restaurants, milk can be found in the "moo" dispensers and lactose-free milks can be found in the refrigerated sections. The Places & Markets also have nonfat, lowfat, regular, lactose-free and soy milk options.

I like my eggs cage-free

I have always loved breakfast food, especially scrambled eggs. All the eggs used in Dining Services are cage-free. This plate is my breakfast of cage-free eggs & spicy homemade salsa, a vegetarian sausage patty, and red grapes.

Hey you, Breakfast Skipper!

Even if it's a small bite (a glass of milk, a piece of fruit), try to eat a little something within about an hour of waking. Breakfast eaters perform better academically! (And have better long-term weight maintenance.)

Breakfast from the bar (salad bar, that is)

I love the huge variety of meals that you can create out of the salad bars in Dining Services' restaurants. This breakfast is from Canyon Vista's salad bar. It's fruit (grapes, cantaloupe, melon, dried apricots) and cottage cheese with a glass of nonfat milk. It's healthy, quick and tasty.
