Check out the produce colors at the new Village Place and Market!

The new Village Place & Market on North Campus is open!

Pictured at Right: the gorgeous colors of the fresh produce in the Village Place and Market's produce patch area.

March is National Nutrition Month and this year's theme is Eat Right With Color. The new Village Place & Market can help you fill your plate with a wide variety of colors - the whole concept is that naturally vibrant and colorful foods have different nutrients and the different colors often correspond to different nutrients.

The Village Place & Market Regular Hours:
Mon-Fri 7a-1a

Produce Patch a-Plenty!

Check out Goody's beautiful Produce Patch in the market (downstairs level.) If you are looking for healthy snacks and sides, look no further than the Produce Patch! There are many choices for fruits and vegetables. You can eat these in your Res Hall room or cook some of them up in your apartment.
Few of us eat the recommended number of servings of fruits and veggies per day (~5-9!) but the Produce Patch makes it a little easier. Stop by Goody's or another Place & Market to pick up some fresh produce anytime.

Hey, Nice Hass!

Hass avocados are sold in the Produce Patches at Dining's Places & Markets. In Dining restaurants, avocado and guacamole are available everyday at the deli station and frequently included as part of the daily specials. And you can get guacamole on your burrito, salad or bowl at Goody's.
Check out this site for Fun Facts about the avocado: http://www.avocado.org/about/fun-facts

My fave facts:
  • San Diego County is the avocado capital of the U.S., producing 60% of California's crop
  • People in Brazil add avocado to ice cream!
  • Some people call the avocado an alligator pear

Produce Patch = Fresh Fruit & Veggies

Though many nutrition fads and myths abound and some "facts" can be argued, there is a nutrition recommendation that is not debated: Fruits and Vegetables are great for you! Most college students eat too few fruits and vegetables.

Dining Services serves fruits and vegetables in all its restaurants. You can also get fresh fruit and veggies from the traveling Farm2U (farmer's market) and the Produce Patches in
the Places & Markets:

  • Goody's (pictured) on TMC
  • Foodworx on Sixth College
  • Roger's on Revelle College
  • Earl's on Warren College
  • The Village on ERC

Aim for 5-9 servings of fruits/vegetables everyday.
